Meeting Signor G
A show discovering the lesser-known Gaber, perhaps the most genuine, the most mature.
A show discovering the lesser-known Gaber, perhaps the most genuine, the most mature. A journey through the works, the monologues, the songs, but also filmed contributions and the words of Paolo Dal Bon, to better understand the thought and action of this great man of theatre.
An evening-show, theatrical, as befits when speaking of Signor G. An encounter with his ideas, or rather with the drafts of ideas that he "threw out there," those somethings that would then be up to us to mature until we could call them ideas, or rather thoughts. And not abstract thoughts, of air, but concrete, of hard earth, that become actions, gestures; to "Va' pensiero, sull'ali dorate" he replied "Vieni azione, dai piedi di piombo."
The subtle, ironic, sharp Gaber. Concrete, irreverent. The G. who mercilessly inveighs against false consciences, the exhibition of squalid do-goodism, power, the market, old ideals. The provocateur, deliberately annoying and concretely poetic.
But also the poet of things, the craftsman of words and not of sophisms, who knew how to narrate like few others all aspects, especially the least "sung" of human relationships, of our relations and above all of contact with ourselves, so often insufficient if not absent.
The anthropologist, who strips reality of its lace to highlight its contradictions, the absurdity of formalisms. A taste of all this, the tip of an iceberg, of a work no less vast than it is great.
